The Great Chang and Fak-Hong (Oriental Review)

This poster is from the Chang and Fak Hong's Magic Review. This poster for the 1930s magic show stars The Great Chang, a magician who frequently shared the bill with other Asian illusionists; Fak-Hong in this instance. This poster was originally printed in Valencia, Spain. In spite of the sound of his appellation, Chang was actually the stage name of Juan Pablo Jesorum (1889-1972), a native of Panama who learned magic as an assistant/interpreter for The Great Raymond. Jesorum began his solo career in 1913 as "The Great Pablo," then later as "Li-Ho Chang" and still later simply as "Chang." Though he toured all over the world with his magic show, it was in South America where he found his greatest success, best known for his presentation of "Shooting A Bullet Through A Woman," an illusion also performed by Carter the Great.
